Values in PerformanceSM

Integrating Ethical Leadership into Organizational Culture

Executive Summary

Values in PerformanceSM is a “blended learning” approach to ethics and compliance training with both online and fixed components. The online component supports the fixed component.

Online support includes access to a decision-making matrix, an Ethical Conflict Resolution (ECR) Guide and “real-to-life” case studies, as well as online resources for those who wish to learn more about how to develop the characteristics of ethical leadership.

The most important element of Values in PerformanceSM is the fixed component. The program is primarily a “face-to-face” interactive, case-based methodology.

The learning standards, objectives, and activities support four competencies:

  • legal and ethical assessment skills
  • interpersonal skills
  • process skills
  • resource management.

Focus

The purpose of the training is to demonstrate the relevance of codes of conduct and standards of business practice to everyday business decision-making, and to present the compliance program infrastructure as a valuable resource in addressing potential legal issues or ethical concerns.

The focus of our training is on problem resolution. Participants learn how to apply the basic concepts of business ethics and compliance in solving problems.

Training Standards and Objectives

The training standards follow from the four competencies of legal and ethical  assessment skills, interpersonal skills, process skills, and resource management. Participants demonstrate the ability to:

  • identify potential legal issues and ethical problems in a team environment
  • communicate effectively about potential legal and ethical issues among team members
  • solve problems together
  • make responsible decisions by accessing needed resources.

Assessment Tools

ICEG staff have developed summative and formative measures to assess the effectiveness of our training efforts.

Summative measures include online assessment tools, evaluation forms, follow-up surveys, and email or online "mini-quizzes."

Formative measures include open-ended or constructed response items wherein participants resolve a problem that may have multiple good solutions. Portfolios require participants to construct a book of case studies for new-hire ethics and compliance orientation in their department.
